The recently passed Gangwon Special Act has drawn attention to its omission of crucial provisions related to special cases in the field of education. As a result, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education has initiated preparations for the 3rd revision of the act.
Today, the first meeting was held, marking the beginning of the selection process for special cases that pertain to educational autonomy.
In Yangyang, the Education Support Center currently employs only 14 individuals, leading the Sokcho Yangyang Office of Education to oversee high school, kindergarten, and cultural arts education. However, there is a growing demand for the establishment of the Yangyang Education Support Office to cater to specialized education in smaller schools.
Unfortunately, the Gangwon Special Act does not currently include provisions for these specific cases. Recognizing this gap, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education has embarked on the 3rd revision process.
To inform the revision, the Office of Education has compiled a total of 22 special requests received from schools at different levels. Our primary objective is to enable region-specific autonomous education, which necessitates including provisions that support educational autonomy.
Of particular importance is the potential for attracting international schools, which have proven highly effective in attracting students. By incorporating special cases that accommodate the establishment of international schools, Gangwon-do aims to create a unique educational environment that can further enhance its educational offerings.
Additionally, the revision process will consider provisions for specialized vocational education, as these programs play a crucial role in equipping students with practical skills for the workforce.
The government claims to understand the significance of recognizing and leveraging the unique special cases in Gangwon-do. Properly navigating high-level negotiations is essential to ensure that these cases yield tangible results. To this end, the completion of ordinance maintenance for the three education special cases has been targeted for June next year.
As Gangwon-do sets its sights on embracing the potential for international schools, specialized vocational education, and other educational enhancements, it is committed to fostering an educational landscape that meets the evolving needs of its students and communities.
